Anna Melnikova

Anna Melnikova is one of the first artists that I worked with in Berlin. In 2008, when I was supporting Tacheles as a PR assistent to promote their performance programme at the breathtaking “Goldener Saal”, she wanted to present a piece there called “ich sage, dass es (m)ein russischer Abend ist”. Anna experienced two very different educational systems studying both socialistic folk dance in Moscow as well as contemporary choreography in Berlin. Referring to her childhood memories and current impressions, the new piece questioned how political systems form the dancing body and how, in turn, the body forms the mind. I was instantly hooked by the idea of the work and eager to develop an ingenious PR strategy for the production. It’s been a successful collaboration and Anna & I stayed in touch ever since.

Beginning of 2012, E|E has helped her to present “ich sage, dass es (m)ein russischer abend ist” at Tanzwoche Dresden (April 2012, projekttheater Dresden, Germany).

In fall 2012 I received an email from her, the subject being “Audience at Christmas?”. Anna had started to work on a new choreographic series called “BEUGEN körper, raum, zeit”. She wanted to present its first part during the upcoming Christmas holidays but wasn’t sure if anyone would be up for seeing a contemporary dance piece around that time. This email kicked off a new collaboration and later on we had lots of reasons to smile on the initial doubts regarding the timing. The audience has been great! It’s all about high quality work combined with inspired marketing…
